Leyla Bouzid / As I Open My Eyes


Leyla Bouzid was born and raised in Tunis. Her father is Nouri Bouzid, Tunisia’s foremost auteur, known for his politically-engaging films.

Leyla moved to Paris to study French literature at the Sorbonne and later, directing, at La Fémis. 

Her graduate short film Mkobbi Fi Kobba screened at over 30 international festivals.

As I Open My Eyes is Leyla’s first feature. It premiered at Venice Days where it won the "Best European Film" award. A few months later, at the Dubai International Film Festival, it collected the "Muhr Fiction Feature" award.

It has since received upwards of 25 awards from festivals including Toronto and Rotterdam.
