Born to an Emirati father and a British mother, Ali grew up in the UAE with parents who fostered in him a love for cinema. Upon graduating from College, he pursued his passion toLondon where he enrolled in a Masters degree at the London Film School.
Returning to Dubai in 2006, Ali established a production company called AFM Films that produces shorts, documentaries, corporate videos, commercials, and feature films.
His debut feature, City of Life (2009) broke box office records for an Emirati film.

For From A to B, Ali collaborated with Mohamed Hefzy on the script. The feature was produced by Image Nation and twofour54 in collaboration with Rotana. From A to B was the first Emirati film to open the Abu Dhabi Film Fest.
