A Love Story (Hekayat Hob) 1959

The plot of this romantic drama filled with song involves a music teacher (played by the megastar Abdulhaleem Hafez) whose responsibilities to his family tie him to this job at a small school, despite his huge talent. With the encouragement of a close friend, he changes course and ultimately becomes a very famous singer. When Hafez died in 1977, the New York Times called him “the combination Elvis Presley–Frank Sinatra of the Arab world.” His romantic songs and patriotic songs about Egypt were widely popular, especially with women.
