Scandar Copti is an Oscar-nominated Palestinian filmmaker, screenwriter, actor, and producer born in 1975 in Jaffa.Originally trained as a mechanical engineer at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Copti transitioned into filmmaking, focusing on the social challenges faced by Palestinians in Israel. His debut feature, Ajami (2009), co-directed with Yaron Shani, won the Caméra d'Or Special Mention at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 82nd Academy Awards.
Copti is known for his distinctive approach to working with non-professional actors, aiming to bring authenticity to his storytelling. He currently resides in Abu Dhabi, where he teaches film at New York University Abu Dhabi.
