Starting with his feelings about his mother’s belly dancing, full of female sensuality, he explores the effects of the fundamentalist Islam view on the arts in general, labeling them sinful. Interweaving rehearsals, conversations, performances, and archival footage, the documentary investigation explores Muslim identity, harmful stereotypes, and the rich and beautiful tradition of dance and music found across the Arab world.
